​Spellings​

As a school, we use 'Spelling Shed' for our scheme of work. Children practice these spellings weekly in school, but are also provided with a log in to use the website at home to play educational games to consolidate their understanding of their focused spelling pattern. We encourage children to play this 3 times a week. Children can also request a printed copy of their weekly spellings if they do not have access to the internet at home.

 

In reception and Year 1, the children have 'Word boxes'. These are sent home in their Reading Records for children to practice. These are also checked in school.

Reading

We encourage all children to read at least 3 times a week (30 minutes KS1/45 minutes KS2) and ask for this to be recorded in their reading record (date, name of book, pages read and signed).

Your child will be provided with a school reading book which is appropriate to their reading level and linked where necessary to their phonics set, however, the children can also read the newspaper, a magazine or any other text types, and this too can also be recorded in their reading record!

Children are also actively encouraged to participate in our whole school reading challenges. These have included: Read Around the World, Rainbow Reading and Stories on Safari. The children can provide evidence of their completed challenge on Seesaw.

Maths

​

For Maths, the children in Reception and Year 1 have their own Numbots username and password. This is an app that the children can download to consolidate their maths fluency skills, such as number bonds. The children in years 2-6 are encouraged to play Times Table Rock Stars. This is an online programme we subscribe to as a school. We also have a TTRS Leader Board in school that children can move their names along as an incentive to practice. The children are also entered into inter-school competitions and local competitions with other schools. Children should strive to use Numbots and Times Tables Rockstars three times a week.

Home Learning

At the beginning of each theme, the children will be given a home learning task sheet, consisting of tasks related to the foundation subjects. These can be completed in any order over the whole term. Children can do these in their home learning book or upload photos to Seesaw. Each piece of Home Learning earns the children a raffle ticket. Our Home Learning raffle is drawn once a term.
